Living Out Loud: A Pride Spotlight

June 26, 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision that declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states. The decision was the culmination of decades of civil rights activism against long-held ideas and policies that discriminated against gay people in the United States.

These hard-earned freedoms required decades of work from those in the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies, which gives us a little something extra to celebrate for Pride Month this year. But we don’t have to tell you how tenuous those freedoms can feel from time to time. Many in the LGBTQIA+ community are concerned about losing their rights and about living their lives safely and openly.

LGBTQIA+ individuals often face a higher risk of mental health issues as is, due to a combination of discrimination, lack of family acceptance, and other stressors that are borne out of intolerance. With many in the community feeling under attack, the need for mental health awareness, support, and action has never been greater.
